POSITANO, ITALY
Positano. The dreamiest place! It’s safe to say the views were nothing short of incredible. The beautiful array of colorful buildings is nestled into the cliffs of the Amalfi Coast overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea.
Unfortunately, there isn’t an easy way to get here. There are no direct flights from any given city yet, so your options are either the train and bus, ferry and bus, or a car hire. Being budget travelers, we opted for flying into Naples before taking the train to the southernmost town of Salerno. Here we hopped on a bus which took a little under an hour to reach our final destination in Positano. At the time the drive made me insanely car sick but looking back on it now, it was worth it. If I could redo the trip I would consider hiring a car to go there and back so I could stop at some of the view points! It may be more expensive but it’s a lot more efficient in terms of arriving faster.
On our first day we wandered down to Spaggia Grande Beach and had a few drinks at a cute restaurant nearby to celebrate our friends birthday. It was a rainy day but we still made the most out of our time! There’s another beach called Fornillo about a 10 minute walk from here down the coastal pathway that we didn’t get the chance to visit.
If you hop on a bus headed for the town of Amalfi, about halfway there you’ll hit Fiordo di Furore— which is super popular in the summer for cliff jumping. Here you’ll find a long staircase leading down to the beach, which is now sadly sanctioned off to the public due to falling rocks. We still managed to wander down as far as we could!
Mark my words, the best pizza you’ll ever eat is definitely in Italy. The dough is so thin and gooey you almost have to use a fork and knife to eat it without looking ridiculous. The wine is great just about anywhere you go, too.
Overall, Positano definitely lived up to my expectations. The town is full of friendly people, well-rounded tour guides and amazing food. I definitely walked more stairs here than I have in my entire life— but the sunsets and scenic views were worth it!
