A WEEKEND IN SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA
Due to my sister studying abroad for the school semester in the land down under, I decided now was the perfect time for me to pay a visit to Australia- and BOY am I glad I did. For starters, the country holds a never ending list scenic places to explore. Between Australia and New Zealand, I spent about 14 days traveling and still feel as if it wasn’t nearly enough.
Day 1: My sister and her friend picked me up from the Sydney airport around 6 AM the day I arrived. The weather was a bit chilly, considering September is only the start of Spring for Australians. The best time to visit is our winter time here in the US! Our first stop was no other than the iconic Sydney Opera House. After that, we spent the day at Bondi Beach where we shopped around and walked along the ocean. This was one of my favorite spots in Sydney!
Day 2: On our second day we took a day trip out of the city to the Blue Mountains. There is so much to do here, so if you make the drive plan on spending the day exploring the beautiful park. You can hike, camp, and even take a tram to the top of one of the mountains. It was a few hours out of Sydney but well worth the visit if you have the time. From the viewpoint where we stood you can also take in the view of the “three sisters” rock formation.
Day 3: For our final day in Sydney before heading off to New Zealand, we spent the day at Manly Beach and walked around the shopping strip there. This beach had the cutest pier with a restaurant/bar on the water along with many other unique places to stop for a bite. We ended our day with a walk around the pier near the place we stayed in Manly. Overall, Sydney was a beautiful city with great views and some of the friendliest people you’ll ever meet!
One thing I wish we would have done but couldn’t due to the weather causing high tide was visit the Figure Eight Pools. These are a part of Royal National Park right outside of the city. You have to check online to see if its low tide or high tide- it’s too dangerous to visit during high tide which is why we unfortunately couldn’t make the trip. The pools consist of a rocky platform where small pools of ocean water gather. It takes about three to four hours of hiking to get there and back but if you ever visit on a nice day- I recommend making the trip!
